New Online Community for Small Business Owners
The U.S. Small Business Administration’s website, www.community.business.gov, provides an opportunity for small business owners to discuss and share information about starting and running a successful business. Issues covered include starting an online business, home-based businesses, serving the senior citizen population, loans, grants, taxes, government contracting, and business law.
SCORE
Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) provides free business counseling by appointment at the Brooklyn Business Library Monday through Friday. Experienced businesspeople offer private, one-hour business coaching sessions. You may schedule an appointment with a SCORE counselor by calling 718-623-7000, ext. 3.
SBA ARC Loan Program
SBA’s America’s Recovery Capital Loan Program can provide up to $35,000 in short-term relief for viable small businesses facing immediate financial hardship to help ride out the current uncertain economic times and return to profitability.
To speak to a customer service representative about the ARC Loan Program, call 866-947-8081, Monday through Friday, from 8 amto 9 pm.
Small Business Training Network
The Small Business Training Network offers online business courses for prospective and existing small business owners. Topic courses include: Starting a Business, Surviving in a Down Economy, Business Management, Financing & Accounting, Marketing & Advertising, Government Contracting, Business Planning, E-Commerce, International Trade, and Federal Tax Training. You can register for these courses at www.sba.gov. Type “SBTN” in the “Search” box.
Women’s Business Centers
Women’s Business Centers (WBCs) offer comprehensive training and counseling on a vast array of topics in many languages for entrepreneurs, especially women who are economically or socially disadvantaged, to start and grow their own businesses. There are two WBCs in Brooklyn:
